Prince Alonzo Johnson, 26, faces 2nd-degree murder charge

Prince Alonzo Johnson (Brevard County Sheriff’s Office)

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A 26-year-old man was arrested after a woman was killed by crossfire during a gunfight last month at a Merritt Island apartment complex, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Prince Alonzo Johnson was arrested last Friday in connection with the death of Tasha Smith, 36, who died in the shooting on Sept. 20 at Tropical Manor apartments.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded just after midnight to reports of a loud disturbance and found Smith, who was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Deputies said the gunfire happened after a fight broke out between two men. Smith was not involved in the shooting but was in the area when she was shot by Johnson, according to the sheriff’s office.

Johnson faces charges of second-degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Anyone with information in the shooting is asked to call Agent Vince Bustillo of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at 321-633-8413 or CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-8477.
