ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – SunRail will be closed Thursday for what’s expected to be the worst day of Central Florida impacts from Hurricane Helene.
Rail service will restart as early as possible the following morning once crews have checked the rail corridor, SunRail said in a news release.
When storm conditions stabilize, a complete inspection of the entire railway corridor is necessary to assess the storm’s impact and remove any obstructions on the railroad tracks so service can be reinstated for SunRail, as well as freight and Amtrak operations.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings made mention of the SunRail closure during a news conference Wednesday, ahead of Helene’s expected landfall in Florida’s Big Bend area.

Demings added Lynx buses would still operate on Thursday as long as sustained wind speeds stayed below 35 mph.
