Milton forecast to make landfall on Florida Gulf Coast as major hurricane

ORLANDO, Fla. – Hurricane Milton on Tuesday continues to move through the Gulf of Mexico on a path toward Florida’s Gulf Coast as a major hurricane.

Milton will bring the potential for strong damaging winds, considerable rainfall, threat for flooding, tornadoes and even coastal storm surge through the duration of the storm.

Many models are in agreement that the critical core with the most damaging conditions slicing through the heart of Central Florida along the I-4 corridor.

The timing shows Milton squall lines swinging through Central Florida by midday on Wednesday, increasing the threat for tornado warned supercells. The worst of the weather is still expected to be late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning as the eye of Milton tracks along I-4 and finally exiting the east coast communities.

The heaviest rainfall will fall north of the center of Milton with some isolated amounts reaching double digit rain totals. The shear amount of rainfall will swell rivers and waterways across Central Florida, especially along the St. Johns River and low-lying areas.

The wind field could rival what Central Florida experienced with Hurricane Charley with wind gusts exceeding 100 mph close to the center of Milton. All of Central Florida can expect strong to damaging winds peaking overnight Wednesday into early Thursday morning.

Make sure all your hurricane preparations are completes by sundown on Tuesday, and you are in place to ride out the storm by noon on Wednesday.
