Milton set to strike Orlando area as Category 2 storm

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Shoppers filled the Publix in the Packing District and Costco in Winter Park on Monday, grabbing last-minute supplies ahead of Hurricane Milton’s expected arrival.

Orange County officials have urged residents to finish their preparations by Tuesday.

One shopper, Florida native Jennie Santos, reflected on the importance of preparedness.

“It hasn’t really moved since I got here about five minutes ago, so we’ll see,” she said. “I’m a born Floridian, born and raised. I’ve seen what Charley has done. For the family’s sake, just for everyone’s sake, just be prepared. You never know the track or where the storm is going to go,” Santos said.

Another shopper, Holly Kyeuyne, was at Costco stocking up on propane and toilet paper, expressing concerns over potential power outages.

“I’m stocking up on (toilet paper) and some propane, just in case the power goes out so I can use my grill,” Kyeuyne said. “Hopefully, the storm breaks up before it gets to us.”

Healthcare worker Suma Ramakrishna was among those in line for gas, preparing for the busy days ahead.

“I’m a healthcare worker, so I have to go to work the next couple days. We’re trying to get the fuel ready,” Ramakrishna said. “If I run out of gas, I won’t be able to help my family or at work. It’s better to be safe than sorry.”

Orange County officials emphasized the importance of having a storm plan in place by Tuesday to ensure residents are prepared for any emergency.
