Milton now Category 4 hurricane in Gulf

ORLANDO, Fla. – People across Central Florida are rushing to stores ahead of Hurricane Milton and some stores are already out of essential supplies like water.

“Better safe than sorry,” Roniera Cornwall said.

Cornwall went to Publix in College Park Monday to grab a few more things since she’s planning to ride out the storm with her family at home.

“It’s slow, but you know a lot of people had to work, but it’s going to get more crowded later so maybe they’ll have more stuff on the shelf later on. Maybe some trucks may come in,” Cornwall said.

Cornwall told News 6′s Ezzy Castro how most of the water was sold out Monday.

Another shopper, John, was able to grab a case of Evian water for $16.

“I got enough, but a little bit pricey,” he said.

State leaders are urging Floridians to check their disaster supply kit and stock up on main essentials like food, water, pet food, flashlights, emergency power sources, and copies of important documents.

“Your disaster supply kit should have enough supplies to last each member of the house hold including pets for at least seven days,” FDEM Executive Director Kevin Guthrie said.
