BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Four illegal casinos were shut down in Brevard County last week, ending with the confiscation of nearly $200,000, according to the sheriff’s office.

In a release, deputies said they executed search warrants at the casinos, seizing 146 illegal slot machines and $194,770 in cash.

Despite the large amount of money, though, deputies explained that these proceeds are only a portion of the funds that kept these gambling operations in business.

“Sadly, the money these unlicensed, unregulated facilities take in is essentially stealing from the patrons who frequent these establishments, and because they are unlicensed, there are no player protections or benefits to the community like regulated facilities,” said Lou Trombetta, the executive director of the Florida Gaming Control Commission.

Multiple arrests were made stemming from the casino shutdowns, though the sheriff’s office didn’t identify the suspects involved.

However, investigators said that law enforcement is continuing to look into other instances of illegal gambling in the state.

Anyone with information about illegal gambling facilities or activities in Florida is urged to contact the FGCC by calling 850-880-3433 or by clicking here.

No additional information has been provided at this time, including where these casinos were operating within the county.
